Slow down but don’t stop!!

A quick pick me up!!!

Setbacks, downfalls, pit stops, obstacles, rejection, self doubt, haters, lack of funding, shady team members, nay-sayers…..the list goes on and on and on. These things can cause a person to throw in the towel at any moment. I too have come to periods where I want to shut down shop and go hide because I am not reaching the goals that I have set out to achieve within the planned timeframe. Its tough out here, especially when 10 million others are trying to gain the same things you are trying to gain. So why keep going???

Success takes time, you’re going to hear “no” more than you hear “yes”. Be prepared for that and don’t crumble once you’ve heard this more times than you care for. Its ok to take some time off to re-group and come back to your project with a fresh mind. This can help you to move forward with positive thoughts. Not saying that with EVERY set back, take a “vacay” but when you feel like you’re at your wits end, don’t keep beating yourself up, give it a rest. You can’t get things accomplished while you’re upset, focusing on the negatives, and constantly feeding your thoughts of wanting to give up.

Here are a few tips to help you in your down moments:

  • Talk to someone who has been there and done that. Get fresh ideas from someone who was once in your shoes. Listen to their story for inspiration. You can tell yourself “If that person made it through their downfalls then I can too!”
  • Pick up a hobby. You have to do things that bring you peace and joy during these moments.
  • Spend time with friends and/or family. You need people around you that will encourage, give good advice, and pull you out of your pity parties. Also, there is nothing wrong with adding a few laughs to your life.
  • Get away. Whether if its to a beach, amusement park, museum, or even a walk in the park, get out of your creative space for a minute to pull from other sources of inspirations.

This industry can make you lose sleep however resting to refresh can get you further. So take a breather but get right back up and get to it!!!
