Bringing It Back | “Calling Your Name” by Steve Ray Ladson

R&B/pop artist Steve Ray Ladson shares emotive, smooth hip-hop single “Calling Your Name”

Calling Your Name by Steve Ray LadonNew York, NY – Steve Ray Ladson shares an emotive new single today titled “Calling Your Name“. Blending R&B, pop and smooth hip hop, he reflects on the universal search for love, and how life as a touring musician can make relationships a struggle. It’s a warm, authentic embrace, that speaks directly to the heart, as a moving and honest reflection. VENTS Magazine premiered the track, saying, “a wonderfully catchy song that captures the 90s, especially the R&B sound of the decade while maintaining it a bit modern.”

Ladson shared how the song came to be. “This song was inspired and created down in Muscle Shoals, Alabama one evening after a recording session at a friend’s home around the table where writing sessions are a norm. I picked up the guitar and began to play and sing, “I’ve had my share of loves ups and downs, I once was lost but now I’m found.” I played the song and sang the lyrics then a good friend of mine, Noah Shell, added to the selection with his touching second verse quoting, “I used to lay awake and wonder, if I’d ever find another.” Realizing that love is universal and is hard to find, especially when you’re a touring musician who spends most of the time on the road traveling.” A multi-instrumentalist and full-time musician, Ladson works as a touring member of the five-time Grammy award-winning Blind Boys Of Alabama, as well as the bassist of Robert Randolph And The Family Band, among projects of his own.

“Calling Your Name” comes as the second single off Ladson’s upcoming album, due out on June 19th. His first single, Do You Know was released last month, along with an accompanying music video. The soulful pop single build an authentic and irresistible feel-good hook, displaying Ladson’s masterful vocal performance and musicianship. “I want people to hear my music and say, it’s authentic and that’s the way music should be,” reflected Ladson. “Remind them of how it used to be and the way it used to sound. Bring back what could feel and when love and music was real. That’s my goal to bring back the real feel.” With COVID-19 bringing the world to a halt, it’s a time more than ever where the world needs feel-good music, and Ladson’s tunes deliver.

Playing over six instruments, and always striving to expand his talents, Ladson continues to dream big. He has previously been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards and has worked/toured with numerous artists including Alan ParsonsVince GillZZ Top, Icelandic band Kaleo, and Mavis Staples. Well-rounded in a variety of genres, and always humble to his roots, Ladson continues to connect listeners across the world with his music.

Once Upon A Heartbreak | “Seventeen” by Chey Rose

Chey Rose Dives Headfirst into Emotions of Heartbreak and Nostalgia in Vulnerable New Single, “Seventeen”

Seventeen by Chey Rose The new year is often known for ringing in hope and inspiration, but for many, it can be a somber time of reflection, nostalgia and even heartbreak. Chey Rose embraces these vulnerable emotions head-on in her brand new single, “Seventeen”. A raw, intimate breakup ballad, the song is a desperate cry to escape the jaded numbness that comes with years of failed love & longs for the ability to feel deeply & freely again, like a first, fresh heartbreak at age 17.

Minimalistic piano, dreamy synths, lo-fi beats & muted electric guitar build this piece into what can be described as a more cinematic Sasha Sloan ballad.

“Seventeen” was co-written with Nashville artist-writer Amy Asher and producer Tony Chetta, is a new very personal style of writing Chey has been delving into. The verses are descriptive and wordy, depicting specific scenes and revealing intimate details in singer-songwriter story-telling fashion; however, the melodies, production, and chorus structure pull from pop/r&b influences. The result: a unique niche sound that’s fresh, heartfelt and most importantly real.

It’s crazy because the night we wrote Seventeen, I didn’t even feel like writing. So much was going on in my personal life and I was honestly scared to face those emotions. But I did anyway, and what started out as a 10pm therapeutic wine night with my two best friends turned into the 2am birth of a song so confessional and real and honest that it scared me – in a good way. Days after the session I couldn’t stop playing the song – it was literally healing my soul as I listened to the demo over and over, and that’s how I knew it had to be shared. If it can heal my heart, it has the power to connect with and heal so many other souls who may be dealing with the same exact thing. – Chey Rose

The track has since racked up almost a million streams and over nine hundred playlist adds on Spotify alone.

Chey’s sultry tone & icy smooth vocals, combined with the fresh melodies & sharp production in each of her tunes, mesh together to create a sound described by The Belmont Mixtape as “a Kehlani-meets-Lauv blend, with a sprinkling of Troye Sivan lyric-magic & a hint of LANY alt-pop influence.” Her musical influences also include artists Olivia O’Brien, Sasha Sloan, Nina Nesbitt and Khalid. Aside from her solo artist career, Chey is an avid songwriter and is frequently cowriting with other musicians and NSAI members. She has had outside cuts by artists in both the country pop and pop/r&b scenes.

Originally hailing from Columbus, OH, Chey currently attends Belmont University in Nashville, TN, majoring in songwriting and minoring in music business. About Cooper Phillip
Born in a small town in Russia to a family of accomplished classical musicians, her early years were shaped being raised by her grandmother and aunt while her mother, a master violin player, toured around the world with various symphonies. This separation led Phillip to take comfort in music where she was enamoured by the vocal stylings of Ella Fitzgerald. A young Phillip taught herself Fitzgerald’s songs inside and out, noticing every nuance of phrasing and jazz intonations. Phillip eventually enrolled at the prestigious Moscow State Classical Academy where she studied classical piano, music theory, harp, jazz, blues, ballet and voice. The songstress worked diligently to expand her vocal range and control, taking everything that came in her path and feeding off of the challenge.

Phillip’s music features an underlying theme of strength, grace, and empowerment. “I believe we underestimate ourselves often and our fear takes over. My goal is to show people that they are stronger and can do much more than they think they can”, she admits. Using true-life stories, hardships, and experiences, the songwriter emits authenticity and courage throughout her music.

Cooper Phillip has seen success with her previous single garnering over 10 million listens online. She has also developed an impressive and loyal fanbase, particularly on social media and has performed at some of Los Angeles most prestigious venues.

UP N DOWN by Izzy Camina - BRASH! magazine blog

Artist: Izzy Camina
Track: “UP N DOWN”

Independent artist and producer Izzy Camina delivers dystopian dance pop with new single, “UP N DOWN”.

Pulse-tronic, blunt and fused on a bitcrush; sonic-ricochet cracks the ambient open; and beats land, kick punching deep, tight, and hard; the snare smacked thin and brittle-sharp.  The bass shifts in dark, heavy ripples of sub and low frequency spl; pushing, throbbing, driving the track in animalistic surges of compacted energy.  Synths burst and rip in atonal, shards of electronica; as much sound design as composition.

Camina mouths lines in absence, in abstention, in search of absolution; words drip in vowel and hushed, throated whisper; syllables linger and drift.  Camina’s vocals stacked in odd double, awkward and compelling.  Part mantra, part musing, part meditation, Camina crafts image, thought, and sardonic aside.

A soundtrack to the 21st century dystopian driveby, “UP N DOWN” draws deep upon intoxicating thrill of losing oneself to the filth and stink of the oblivion chase; an anthem for a generation raised in the era of ego, where privacy and liberty have been traded for 15 minutes and convenience, where chaos has been prescribed to act as a catalyst for capitalism, and indifference has been normalized; a generation who, in the absence and impossibility of enlightenment, are, instead, in search of escape through any means unnecessary.  In speaking for herself, Izzy Camina is speaking for all of them.
