what i want music video by alexa ferr

When Adot The God emailed me the beat for what you hear on “What I Want”, I was playing around with melodies and on this particular day, I was feeling like I needed to go after what I want. That, if I’m not happy at the place I’m at now, I need to do what’s best for me to make myself happy and create the life I want for myself. “What I Want” is about empowering others to go after what they believe they deserve and what they want in life. This can be in the form of a better relationship, way of living, career, etc.

Storytime Visuals | “Stubborn” by RIELL

Recording Artist, RIELL, Releases New Single “Stubborn”

Stubborn by Riell

“Stubborn,” is a toxic warning dressed up in romance and excitement. While the beat is bright, poppy and pretty, the lyrics and meaning are quite dark and sinister.

‘Stubborn’ was inspired after dating someone who threatened to commit suicide if I ever tried to leave him, but refused to get professional help. The relationship itself stemmed from an insecure need to feel needed, and a desire to fix people surrounding me – almost like playing God.  – RIELL

NY Atl-Pop Artist, Olive Louise, Releases New Music Video, “Fool”

Fool by Olive Louise - BRASH! Magazine BlogNew single “Fool” details embracing your most authentic self and not feeling guilty about being happy in life. Louise highlights the importance of not letting others ideas of you define you, or get you down. It’s a personal narration of Louise’s own struggles, written from a dark time in her life, when she was drowning in people’s negative opinions on what she should be doing, or what she should look like. The New York native confides, “I was at a really low point in my life, I had gained weight, was too nervous to run into people I knew for fear of judgment, and felt like some of the people I had been there for the most didn’t want the best for me. It was hard to trust myself and my judgement”. ‘Fool’ is a self-love anthem which screams the attitude of ‘paint me how you want, nobody has the power to hurt me anymore’. Written with a hint of sarcasm, the track is the singer’s way of letting go of the negativity, cleansing all cynicism and showcasing her new IDGAF demeanor. She declares, “I’m confident in my skin, I’m confident in myself and I trust that I’ll always find my way”.

The songstress hopes that her music will inspire others to let go of whatever is holding them back and start being their true selves, sharing “I hope it inspires people to embrace the beauty in what makes them different and offers them new perspective. I believe that when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”.

About Olive Louise
Olive Louise is a singer, songwriter and composer from New York. Known for her championed ability to intertwine her classically trained background with a refreshing take on today’s contemporary pop landscape, Louise translates her vast wealth of experiences into music that is timely as it is timeless.

Growing up on the very estate that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby in Kings Point, New York, Louise’s youth was sound‐tracked as much by the classical and jazz greats as it was by the impeccable talents of her mother, the lead pianist of the Long Island Philharmonic orchestra. While her upbringing took a tragic turn following the passing of her parents before her formative teenage years unfolded, Louise has since worked to consistently rise above, refusing to put her tragedies in front of her handshake and calling for others to get to know her through the music she creates.

Letting Go? | “Hard to Quit” by Fantazmz

NYC Neo-80’s Artist FANTAZMZ Releases Break Up Song, “Hard to Quit”

Hard to Quite by Fantazmz - BRASH! Magazine Blog“As a songwriter, my creative process exists on a spectrum. Often, songs require endless hours of fine-tuning, but sometimes a song pops out effortlessly. “Hard to Quit” is one of those songs that popped right out. The timing probably helped. Aside from the strings, the Mellotron, and a few vocal patches, I wrote and recorded nearly everything in one afternoon after splitting up with my boyfriend of over two years. It was my first queer relationship, and first times always leave a mark. I cried while writing many of the lyrics for “Hard to Quit,” so the writing process was very therapeutic for me. And even though I wrote the song in the aftermath of a break-up, I wouldn’t consider the song sad. In fact, some lines are meant to come off as humorous, because I felt like the song needed to be funny. It reflects more of who I am. Afterward, I could have gone back and strengthened the words a bit, made it more poetic and less rough, but I liked how raw and juvenile the song sounded. There’s an honesty to emotional rawness that I tried to capture.”

David has been a paid musician since the age of 10, releasing his first full-length LP, Man With No Name, while still in high school. He later fronted Portland reggae band, EastWave Radio, releasing the EP Soulful Noise and touring Canada opening for and backing Jamaican Dancehall artist, Jah Cutta. The tour was cut short when their van slipped off an icy roadway. David was dealt with the worst injuries and was hospitalized for two weeks before returning to Maine to heal. After a lengthy recovery, he collaborated with long-time friend, Sam Franklin to create Post Provost and release their LP, Ancient Open Allegory Oratory. The band’s sound included elements of folk, jazz, world, and country music, fused in a unique avant-garde style.

David and his family headed west for southern California in 2014 where he immersed himself in the scene and linked up with Brian Stanley of LA-based band, The Years. Brian’s ear and direction have been of great importance to David as he’s developed and assembled the Fantazmz sound and EP. Since moving to NYC in 16’ David has performed everywhere, from subway platforms to well-known clubs and music venues. He’s steadily been outfitting a home recording studio and working as a producer for up and coming artists in the city; most recently, HoloMovement, a genre-bending collective with a debut album of the same name. David is credited with writing and recording the majority of the instrumentals on the album as well as production, all out of his home studio in Bushwick. Hot Girl Summer Renewal | “New Bitch, Who Dis?” by Cuja

Brazen Girl Power Anthem
“New Bitch, Who Dis?” by Cuja

Following the release of her debut EP Vol. 1, budding pop artist Cuja returns today with a new infectious bop titled “New Bitch, Who Dis?”.

New Bitch Who Dis by Cuja

I wanted “New Bitch, Who Dis?” to be the song people listen to when they want to be all about themselves, when they’re getting ready for a night out or when they need a friend to say ‘Babe, he’s not even worth it. – Cuja

An ode to those that have done us wrong, “New Bitch, Who Dis?” shows Cuja reclaiming the energy in her life and giving the middle finger to anyone who tries to stand in her way. After finding herself shrouded by negative experiences in the music industry, Cuja enlisted the help of two fellow powerful women, producer Alina Smith and artist/songwriter Elli Moore. Together they created an impassioned yet relatable song that highlights Cuja’s sultry vocals. “I was feeling like I needed to be heard and if people were uncomfortable or didn’t like it, that’s on them,” Cuja explains.

Listen to “New Bitch, Who Dis?” on Spotify and Apple Music!

Pop artist, Cuja

Inspired by other girl-power artists such as Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa, Cuja has put her own spin on pop, creating a shimmery, electrified sound that serves as her authentic storytelling canvas of heartbreak, love, pleasure, and pain. Cuja has the drive to succeed like no other. Part of her drive stems from her frustration with the lack of Asian-American representation in the music industry. She hopes her story as a Filipina-American artist will inspire others to pursue music and encourage the music industry to invest in opportunities that promote inclusivity for all minority groups. After releasing her debut EP titled Vol. 1 back in June, Cuja is ready to roll out more heavy-hitting singles that touch on the complexity of life.

With relatable lyrics like you got into my head, under my skin, and made me lose it, you hit me up again like ‘how you been,’ but I ain’t stupid, “Wyd?” is sure to resonate with listeners.Wyd? by Spencer Jordan

“The idea of a booty call isn’t exactly uncharted territory as far as songwriting goes,” Spencer explains. “But, I think so much has changed in dating, especially with people my age, that there are so many new and interesting ways to broach the subjects of feeling used, confused, or unappreciated by someone who you’ve caught feelings for. The ‘Wyd?’ or ‘U up?’ text has almost become a parody of itself for my generation. It is heavily associated with the rise in dating apps, and there’s just so much to play with lyrically there which is what drew me to the idea in the first place.”
