Dance-Pop Realizations | “Breathe Again” Music Video by Vina Rose

Vina Rose unveils the visuals for her pop/club banger, “Breathe Again”

Breathe Again by Vina Rose - BRASH! Magazine Blog

“Breathe Again” is the uplifting and instantly catchy new pop single by London living Sicilian singer/songwriter Vina Rose, whose sound is described as Sia meets Kaytranada.

I wanted to make a summer classic to see dance and pop fans through the coming months so I wrote dreamy vocals over an uplifting EDM backdrop. It’s a song about a spiritual and emotional rebirth, the desire to turn fears and indecisions into confidence and action. It was amazing working with Gavin Holligan from Hollerzz Productions and Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios – the production sounds so clean & crisp! I can’t wait for my fans to hear the finished result! – Vina Rose

Summer Love | “10K Summer Nights” by Eighty Ninety

Indie-Pop Duo Eighty Ninety Are Back With New Single “10K Summer Nights”

10K Summer Nights by Eighty Ninety Brooklyn-based indie-pop act Eighty Ninety are returning with their first single of the year, “10K Summer Nights,”. Fusing their minimalist production with intimate lyricism and laidback melodies, the new single is a delicate yet striking record about young, hopelessly romantic love. “10K Summer Nights” kicks off a new phase for Eighty Ninety as they head towards the release of their highly-anticipated sophomore EP, set for a release later this summer.

Eighty Ninety is the project of two brothers, Abner (vocals, production) and Harper (guitar, production). They chose the name Eighty Ninety for the band as they felt it wouldn’t box them into a particular genre or sound, but called to mind everything from decades and eras of music that influence them, to speed limits, radio stations and liquor proofs.

Stream “10K Summer Nights” Now on Apple Music, Amazon, & Spotify!

Their break out single, “Three Thirty” was an instant success, catapulting to #2 on Spotify’s Global Viral Charts. “Three Thirty” was followed by their debut EP Elizabeth, which was supported heavily by Spotify and tastemakers alike. The brothers returned at the end of 2017 with “Your Favorite Song,” which was also remixed by Island Record’s budding electro-pop duo, Loote. To date, the duo have racked up over 22 million Spotify streams and have received praise from Alternative Press, Huffington Post, Galore, LADYGUNN and Ones To Watch, just to name a few.

Indie pop duo, Eighty Ninety

The past year has been momentous for the indie-pop brothers: they opened for Des Rocs in Brooklyn, toured the East Coast with Savoir Adore, made their SXSW (2018) debut, and even received the stamp of approval from Taylor Swift when she added their single “Your Favorite Song” to her “Songs Taylor Loves” Spotify playlist.

With a recently inked deal with Hard 8 Working Group (home to Billie Eilish, FINNEAS, CYN) and a brand new selection of music on the way, Eighty Ninety are a name to keep on your radar.

Dedicated to Summer | “Cream” by Jett Kwong

Experimental Pop Artist Jett Kwong, Releases New Single, “Cream”

Cream by Jett Kwong

New single “Cream” is an ode to summer, a time passed, to lusting over someone and ultimately lusting over an idealized version of a persona and the past.

I was inspired by the realization that we all, including myself, fall prey to the romanticization of history, and the exoticism of Asia and Asian people. This to me is a legacy of colonialism, and that lens is particularly interesting when I apply them to my own family’s stories of surviving war, flourishing in post WWII Hong Kong, and immigrating to the US. – Jett Kwong

“Cream” evokes the balmy imagery of Kwong’s grandparents strolling down the road in 1940’s Hong Kong in their beautiful, tailored clothes – in stark contrast to the reality of their inequality in a British colony and their everyday struggles to survive and ultimately immigrate. Sonically the single features ethereal vocals, shimmering soundscapes and hints of Kwong’s Chinese influences.

About Jett Kwong
Jett’s work is colored by themes such as family, her identity as a mixed heritage woman, and the complexities of colonial history. “Our identities are colored by the context in which we are in – the way we grow up, our appearance, and our basic interests and beliefs”. It is through this belief that she channels her desire to seek out the true roots of individuality.

Sonically influenced by a variety of sounds from different eras, Jett’s music is built from pieces of the past with an essence of the future. With the desire to spark conversations about identity, the singer/songwriter confides, “I am inspired to tell not only my and my family’s histories, but a broader story of culture – to be a conduit for those stories and to find more innovative ways to express them.”

Empowered by issues surrounding women’s rights, social and political reform and questions around justice, Jett hopes to contribute towards conversations for affecting change. Having performed at prestigious venues including the renown Carnegie Hall, Jett Kwong is ready for the next installment of her journey.

Musical Journal Entries | Resist EP by Rachel Norman

Soulful Pop Singer Rachel Norman Sparkles on Impressive Debut EP, Resist

Resist EP by Rachel NormanSinger-songwriter Rachel Norman recently released her debut EP Resist, taking listeners on a soaring journey of tightly bound jazz-pop harmonies, synthy string compositions, and layered melodies, all led with soaring vocals. Drawing on a variety of influences, such as Ariana Grande and Overcoats, Norman shines on her debut release with a dynamic, powerful, and irresistible delivery.

Celebrating her college graduation this spring, Norman’s lyrics reflect on her personal life and transition to adulthood, revolving around themes of family, relationships, and the female experience. Self-described as “musical poetic journal entries”, she provides an intimate and personal reflection of emotion and truth. Finding her bearings as a young adult, as well as a musician, Norman hopes others will take inspiration and self-actualization from her work, towards their own creative and artistic pursuits.

Resist is an incredibly personal album that documents moments of tragedies as well as revelation and self-affirmation,” shared Norman. “I wrote the Intro when I was sixteen years old in the wake of my parents divorce. I wanted to include this on the album because it provides context for the duality between abandonment and consolation expressed in later songs, especially ‘Sadness’. Despite life’s hardships, there are many different kinds of love that are eternal! Romantic love is not the only kind that is capable of fulfillment, and we must resist the temptation to place our self worth in the hands of other people. It is engrained in our society for women to define themselves within the context of men, and I hope to subvert that pressure and resist it.”

Ensuring that her writing, production, and release process wouldn’t be rushed, Norman planned the release to coincide with her graduation from Muhlenberg College. Balancing devotion to both her studies and music, she gave time for musical growth, pursuing opportunities and networking through her college community and beyond. “Recording this EP has been a whirlwind, as I’ve traveled far and wide to utilize my resources across the country! Between my New York, Boston, and Washington collaborators, I’ve recorded vocals all over the place.” In a unique and non-traditional process, Norman worked with Executive Producer and Engineer Lukas Selig remotely, using technology and constant communication to share recordings, demos, and notes for development. She also worked with composer/jazz pianist Jason Leonhard, guitarist Kris Wong of the Canvas Collective, producer/engineer Michael Abiuso of Behind the Curtains Media, and producer/DJ CLOCKWORKDJ for input and collaboration across the release. “It’s been interesting to incorporate the perspectives of all of my collaborators, while also staying true to my original views and instincts,” shared Norman. “All of them have different styles and areas of expertise, so I’ve learned so much just by experimentation and stepping out of my comfort zone.” Norman performs on a regular basis at venues throughout NYC, Boston, and PA, and looks forward to expanding her reach this summer.

Resist EP is Available Now on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music!

At the start of her musical and acting career, Rachel Norman delivers a strong debut, with the exciting promise of more to come. A music video for her single “Sadness” will be released in coming weeks, and summer shows will be announced soon.

“Ruffhouse” is the 6th single of alternative indie-dance band Sheila and the Kit. High energy electro-pop. Handcrafted to go ALL OUT on your favorite Roughhouse Party! Are you ready for the summer?

We have been playing with the word ROUGHHOUSE for a while now. We figured it could very well be a new music genre. We tried to come up with a sound for it and this is the result.

Lyric-wise this is Sheila’s fun way of feminism. Bragging and flowing in this battle of the sexes.

For fans of Power-Chicks, Home-Queens, She-Bots and women in general; this one’s 4 U!

About Sheila and the Kit
Irresistible dance music; an electronic, groovy flirt with 80’s sounds, while retaining a modern feel.

Edgy and energetic sound
Sheila and The Kit makes alternative synth pop. Catchy vocals combined with motoric synths and drums result in an edgy and energetic sound that’s designed to dance to. Sheila and the Kit started writing music with one important goal. It had to be music where they themselves would want to dance to, all night long. They locked themselves in their studio and soon the first concepts were created. “We’re not writing about misery and failures, but about things that kept us busy during our formative years. Love, awkwardness, clothes, books, hobbies, skating and 7-UP.”

Musical Candy Necklace
In collaboration with band members Chris Doyle and Ralf Pouw, these first concepts grew to become a musical candy necklace, which now, two years later, is ready to be shared with the world. The first material they presented was the singles ‘Good Love Stories’ (with which the band became KX Radio Talent in February), ‘Next 2 U’ and ‘Homeschool Sweethearts’, which together make up for almost 100.000 Spotify streams. Sheila and the Kit was part of Dutch showcase festival Popronde last fall, and rocked the stage on Saturday night at internationally acclaimed Eurosonic-Noorderslag 2019.
