Just Me and My Girlfriends | “Happy To Have You” by Miranda Joan

Singer/Songwriter, Miranda Joan Drops Nu Soul Pop Ode to Female Friendships, “Happy To Have You”

Happy To Have You by Miranda Joan - BRASH! Magazine BlogFollowing the release of her debut EP Still, which fused retro soul with an electronic edge, blurring the lines between old school and contemporary. Joan is set to unveil her highly anticipated new music, a collection of singles, one by one detailing her own experiences with the hope that it offers a different perspective on love and relationships. Produced by Julian Pollack (Grace Kelly, Marcus Miller) the new releases provide an intimate look into the musician’s life, highlighting a female-forward tone. The music has an underlying theme of empowerment, uncovering and connecting with one’s own strength and the importance of self-love. Joan confides, “This latest body of work is a reflection of my journey through the lens of finding my footing as a woman and the importance of my community of women who support me on this path”.

Having already released the irresistibly catchy track “Free”, Joan is dropping “Happy To Have You” – a celebration of female friendship. Joan admits, “Living far from home and far from the people I love, this song is about gratitude and about telling the people you love that you love them”. Featuring soulful vocals, upbeat driving rhythms, and dance-worthy melodies, “Happy To Have You” is a “Summery” anthem reminiscent of modern-day Macy Gray.

Sonically ‘Girlfriend’ showcases Joan’s smokey vocal tone and big bold production which aims to awaken your inner badass. The song isn’t actually about not wanting to be anybody’s girlfriend but was rather prompted by a situation Joan was in where she ended up being punished for not wanting to be somebody’s girlfriend. She shares, “That leads me to begin questioning what it meant to be defined by a relationship and the constraints and exclusivity that are implied by “Girlfriend”; which for me goes beyond just the physical and ventures into the emotional and psychological”. The empowering track portrays the idea of ownership versus partnership in a relationship, and how oftentimes the woman is forced into a role compromise, which in our culture is insidiously skewed to the side of the woman. Often there’s a cost and there shouldn’t be. It should be mutual.

Hot Girl Summer Renewal | “New Bitch, Who Dis?” by Cuja

Brazen Girl Power Anthem
“New Bitch, Who Dis?” by Cuja

Following the release of her debut EP Vol. 1, budding pop artist Cuja returns today with a new infectious bop titled “New Bitch, Who Dis?”.

New Bitch Who Dis by Cuja

I wanted “New Bitch, Who Dis?” to be the song people listen to when they want to be all about themselves, when they’re getting ready for a night out or when they need a friend to say ‘Babe, he’s not even worth it. – Cuja

An ode to those that have done us wrong, “New Bitch, Who Dis?” shows Cuja reclaiming the energy in her life and giving the middle finger to anyone who tries to stand in her way. After finding herself shrouded by negative experiences in the music industry, Cuja enlisted the help of two fellow powerful women, producer Alina Smith and artist/songwriter Elli Moore. Together they created an impassioned yet relatable song that highlights Cuja’s sultry vocals. “I was feeling like I needed to be heard and if people were uncomfortable or didn’t like it, that’s on them,” Cuja explains.

Listen to “New Bitch, Who Dis?” on Spotify and Apple Music!

Pop artist, Cuja

Inspired by other girl-power artists such as Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa, Cuja has put her own spin on pop, creating a shimmery, electrified sound that serves as her authentic storytelling canvas of heartbreak, love, pleasure, and pain. Cuja has the drive to succeed like no other. Part of her drive stems from her frustration with the lack of Asian-American representation in the music industry. She hopes her story as a Filipina-American artist will inspire others to pursue music and encourage the music industry to invest in opportunities that promote inclusivity for all minority groups. After releasing her debut EP titled Vol. 1 back in June, Cuja is ready to roll out more heavy-hitting singles that touch on the complexity of life.

Pop Singer-Songwriter Luke Underhill Premiere’s Acoustic “Wish” Music Video

Following the release of his anticipated EP The Left Side, singer-songwriter, Luke Underhill is keeping momentum going with the release of his latest music video, “Wish”. This visual showcases the artist in a different musicianship talent than his previous acoustic release. Sitting at a piano, he belts out this ballad of wishing for love and its sweet simplistic feelings.

With diverse influences ranging from Gavin DeGraw and Bruce Springsteen to Ed Sheeran and Ben Folds, the multi-instrumentalist, 21-year-old singer/songwriter, Luke Underhill, is preparing to make his mark in the format. The Chicago area performer’s emotional renditions of his songs have already earned him comparisons to a young John Mayer – while some more upbeat arrangements inspire exciting flashes of early Bryan Adams. The future proves to be bright for this budding star as he celebrates the August 18th release of his 7-track, self-written EP, The Left Side. Luke recently performed on Chicago’s WGN Morning News and is gearing up to perform on NBC’s Today in Nashville on October 10th. The new release follows two self-released projects in 2015, “Atlas” and “Atlas Unplugged,” along with a self-produced single in 2016, “Too Good for Me.”

Working on this album was unlike any other. This album was nothing less than an experience. As I was writing for this album, I knew from the beginning that it would be different than anything else I’ve done so far. I had big plans from the start. A different sound, a different feel, a different point of view in every way. None of it could have been achieved without the magic that is Mikal Blue and everyone at Revolver Studios. From my first day arriving at that studio, it immediately felt like home. Mikal Blue captured my sound and the feel I wanted just by getting to know who I was as a person, and who I was influenced by.

Producer Mikal Blue says: Luke’s ability to tell a story with an infectious melody make his songs stand out. His voice pulls you in and his catchy piano melodies and guitar hooks seal the deal.”

With diverse influences ranging from Gavin DeGraw and Bruce Springsteen to Ed Sheeran and Ben Folds, Luke Underhill is preparing to make his mark in the format. The Chicago area singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarists’ emotional renditions of his songs have already earned him comparisons to a young John Mayer – while some more upbeat arrangements inspire exciting flashes of early Bryan Adams.
