Getting It Right | “Better Man” by Justing Kemp Band

Justin Kemp Band Set to Release New Single Produced by Bill McDermott, “Better Man” on Nov. 16th

“Better Man” was written with the hope to inspire people to strive to be the best they can in any given relationship. May it be with a spouse, a parent, a child, a sibling, a friend, or even with God. We all make mistakes, and I think we all hope those we hold dear can and will give us that second chance to be better.

About Justin Kemp Band
Justin grew up in the small New Mexico town of Hobbs listening to his dad sing and play country music and watching him play bass, acoustic guitar, and piano in church on Sunday mornings. He was also heavily influenced by his very supportive aunt and uncle, Sherman and Tammy Aten of Aten Ministries, who are very successful evangelical musicians. Justin was constantly exposed to the sounds of Merle Haggard, George Jones, Keith Whitley, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, and all the greats of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s country music scene. By the age of 11, Justin could often be found in his room with his dad’s acoustic guitar learning to play and switch between the basic chords. He was fascinated with the instrument, and for Christmas that year, Santa delivered Justin his first acoustic guitar. His parents often joke that he picked it up and has yet to put it down.

Justin began writing his own songs in high school. At first, he wasn’t too keen on the idea of singing in front of others; but once he allowed himself to be heard, his unique, powerful voice easily captivated all who listened. After high school, he worked briefly for a local surveying company all the while knowing in his heart that music was his passion. After a couple of years, his younger brother graduated high school and decided to go to South Plains College in Levelland, TX. With encouragement from his family to chase his dreams while he was young, Justin enrolled in the Commercial Music program at SPC.

It didn’t take long for Justin’s parents to begin receiving reassurance from the music staff at SPC that Justin should pursue a career as an entertainer. Justin thrived in the school’s ensembles and quickly got his first solo acoustic gig at a coffee shop in Lubbock playing for tips. He met some other student musicians, and along with is dad, David, formed the Justin Kemp Band to play his first paying gig for his cousin’s Quinceanera in Lovington, NM. It didn’t take long for word to get out and Justin Kemp Band was playing somewhere every weekend in Lubbock, Hobbs, and the surrounding areas, and over the next year, JKB began traveling all over Texas and Southeastern New Mexico.

Justin’s twin brother Cody and younger brother Cameron both help with promoting the band and selling merchandise. Cameron majored in Music Business at SPC and hopes to take over the management of the band from David in the future. Justin’s mom, Marla, plays a key role in promoting the band and keeping up with social media, marketing, designing desirable merchandise, and keeping the boys in line. JKB, which quickly grew into Kempire Productions, LLC, is a family business that is grounded in the Kemp’s Christian faith and a strong “family first” conviction. Justin has often said that he doesn’t care if he ever becomes rich or famous; as long as he’s making a living, having fun, and doing what he loves with who he loves, that’s all that matters.

From Charlie with Love | “Find Someone Who Cares” by Charlie Hole

Singer/Songwriter, Charlie Hole, Releases “Find Someone Who Cares” from Forthcoming Album, Beautiful Decay

Find Someone Who Cares by Charlie Hole - BRASH! Magazine BlogCharlie Hole is one of the most exciting young singer-songwriters around nowadays. On “Find Someone Who Cares”, the fourth single from his upcoming album Beautiful Decay, his carefully crafted music combines Acoustic and Folk elements in such elegant manner. It is a splendid piano-ballad reminding us of Elton John glory days with modern Matt Simons, James Bay and John Mayer influences.

Charlie about his new single:
“I wrote Find Someone Who Cares for my Dad’s wedding after he asked me if I could sing a song during the ceremony.

I was struggling to come up with anything because I wanted to get the moment just right and I had never written a pure love song before.

Eventually I found the melody from an old discarded song I had lying around, with the chorus essentially intact and I loved the sentiment of finding something and holding on to it. I rewrote the verses around some romantic imagery and phrased the lines as questions, more like traditional wedding vows couples get asked at ceremonies… like ‘will you take thee to be your lawful wedded wife etc…’ but made them more personal like ‘will you hold me in the silence of the moon as it’s dancing in your eyes?’… as soon as I had rephrased the lines as questions the song somehow worked, and I knew I had what I wanted.

I played it to my producer, Jim Cregan, to see what he thought. I played everything I ever wrote to him and I think this was the only time I ever made him cry with a song, so I knew I had a good one.

I played it during the wedding ceremony for my Dad and his wife, Sarah, and they both cried too, and to this day I still think it’s the best song on the album because I wasn’t trying to do anything clever or different with it, I just let it be what it is, a nice, honest love song.”

Ws To Ms by Clayt - BRASH! Magazine BlogWhat’s Next?
After releasing his “Things I Gotta Say” single this summer, Clayt continues his streak of gem-worthy singles with “W’s to M’s” (produced by All Angles) as he gears up for an EP release early 2019. It’s clear that Clayt is coming into his own with a fresh sound that fails to stir comparisons.

The song is really all about leveling up. Taking advantage of your situation no matter what. I talk about that when I mention how I had to sleep on the floor when I first moved to Atlanta. It’s motivation. – Clayt

About Clayt
Clayt hails from Newport News, Virginia, a town known for being home to legendary sports stars such as Allen Iverson and Michael Vick. Just like them, Clayt grew up through adversity in its notorious downtown area, becoming what he’s called “a product of the hood, just a weird example”. Though his surroundings may not have been the most inspiring, Clayt still managed to develop a passion for music, and strengthen an imagination that can be witnessed in his vision for success. After putting years into making a name for himself in the local area and throughout his home-state, 2014 was when he would make the most important decision of his life and career. Clayt decided to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia for a fresh start, and ever since he’s grown both as an artist and as a community figure. Realizing the lack of constructive influences during his youth, Clayt has now made it his mission to implement themes of artistry into his content. He is committed to the belief that if we are able to make people more comfortable with their gifts and ideas, we can not only save dreams, but lives as well. Representing the Mutant World collective, Clayt seems to be well on his way to becoming the next Hometown Hero.

Neil Fitzsimon on the song’s creation: “When I first wrote the song, Bee’s (Brogan’s) mum said it sounded like ‘Waltzing Matilda.’ When we recorded the song in the studio, with producer Pat Collier (Katrina and the Waves), Bee could not get the scream to sound right, so we had to ask an ex-band member to send in the demo, so we could drop the original into the track. I don’t think he was very pleased!”
